Hyderabad: South Zone police conducted a cordon and search operation in the Pardiwada area under Hussainialam police station limits on Thursday. The police arrested eight persons, five for selling calcium carbide, a banned substance used for ripening mangoes and three persons for selling illicit liquor.
The police also seized six mango godowns where locals were using calcium carbide to ripen mangoes and 150 bottles of illegal liquor. “The locals of the area protested against the raid stating that if we seize the goods it will affect their livelihood,” said South Zone deputy commissioner of police, Satyanarayana.
“We counselled them to look for legal ways to earn their bread and not to follow unlawful methods,” deputy commissioner of police added.
