Nellore: A woman and her lover were burnt alive when her husband set fire to his house after he found them together in a compromising position at Kollamitta village in Muthukur mandal of SPSR Nellore district on Wednesday.

After setting fire to the house, the man, identified as Madapaka Haribabu, sat outside the burning house to prevent anyone, including his own daughter, from rescuing the pair.

Madapaka Kavita, 35, and her lover Nannam Seenu, 38, of Pantapalem have been having an illicit relationship for five years. Ashok, brother of Kavita, had assaulted Haribabu when he exposed the illicit relationship about four years ago and since then, he has been waiting for an opportunity to take revenge.

On Wednesday, at about 11 am, he was irrigating a nearby groundnut farm when he noticed Seenu entering the house after parking his bike outside. He bolted the door from outside and torched the house after spraying petrol drawn from the bike of Seenu on the thatched roof.

Muthukuru police have registered a case under section 302 and SC/ ST Atrocities Prevention Act since Seenu is a SC.

The case is being investigated by Nellore rural DSP KV Raghava Reddy.
