Five more held for attacking Kerala police

Tools, including metal rods, machete and swords were seized from the accused.

ALAPPUZHA: The police arrested five more people in connection with the attack on a patrol team by masked men at Vallikunnam here on the night of May 29.  Earlier, five people had been arrested in the case. Those arrested on Wednesday were identified as Asokan alias Vavachan, 32, Sankara Bhavan, Vallikunnam, Thufan Thulasi alias Chickku, 25, Malayil Thekkathil, Kaduvinal,  Sreeraj, 23, Melathara colony, Kaduvinal, Sarathlal, 23, Santhalayam, Manappallil Vadaku near Vallikunnam and Ajith, 23, Kallil Thekkathil, Vallikunnam.   

Circle Inspector P. Sreekumar  said the accused were RSS activists.  “The police team was attacked in several places, including Kanjrathum moodu, Kambissery and Vallikunnam, that day during the patrol. They were framed on the charge of threatening and  assaulting policemen and damaging the police jeep wearing masks.  There are 15 accused in the case.  Five are still absconding,” the  CI said.

Tools, including metal rods, machete and swords  were seized from the accused. The investigation was conducted on the basis of mobile phone calls, the  SI said.  The arrested were produced before the  Mavelikara court and remanded in custody.
