Kottayam police identify pregnant woman's body, arrests one
Police sources said that the plastic cover which was used to tie up the body had led to his arrest.
Kottayam: The Kottayam police have reportedly taken into custody a person in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman whose body was found tied in a sack at a rubber estate near Athirampuzha on Monday morning. Though the police did not reveal the details, the accused is learnt to be Basheer alias Gadar Yousuf, 35, a native of Erattupetta who resides at Ammanchery near Gandhinagar.
He was being questioned at the police club and more details will be disclosed by the district police chief who will hold a press conference after recording his arrest on Friday morning. Police sources said that the plastic cover which was used to tie up the body had led to his arrest. According to sources, the woman, Aswathy, 21, a native of Aranmula, was residing at a rented house at Kunnukulam for many months.
Basheer had an affair with her concealing the fact about his wife who is in the Gulf. When she got pregnant, he asked her to abort the foetus. However, as she refused to do so, he murdered her. According to the post-mortem report, the cause of death was a blow suffered by the victim with a blunt object in the head or due to her hitting a wall forcefully.
