Ayesha Meera probe reopened
The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday issued a GO appointing a Special Investigation Team to reinvestigate the Ayesha Meera murder case.
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday issued a GO appointing a Special Investigation Team to reinvestigate the Ayesha Meera murder case. The home department issued GO 132 appointing the SIT to be headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police-cadre officer and comprising women police officers. The government entrusted Vijayawada police commissioner D. Gautam Sawang with the responsibility of supervising the re-investigation.
The state government issued the GO after High Court gave a clean chit to Pidatala Satyam Babu who was listed in the chargesheet as the prime accused. Ayesha Meera’s parents have demanded justice to their daughter. Earler, a Public Interest Litigation was moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to direct the AP government to conduct re-investigation into the murder of the B. Pharmacy student.
Ayesha Meera was found dead with multiple stab wounds in a private hostel in Ibrahimpatnam of Vijayawada on December 27, 2007. Prof. Rama Melkote, a retired teacher of Osmania University and two others moved the petition stating that they represented the Andhra Pradesh government after the High Court had on March 31, 2017 acquitted Satyam Babu. They submitted though they had represented in twice in June and July of 2016 to the government till date there was no response with regard to ordering the probe.
