HYDERABAD: The special operations team of Rachakonda’s Maheshwaram zone and Abdullapurmet police arrested four students and autorickshaw driver Mohd Sameer with five kg of ganja here on Friday. The accused were returning to the city from Odisha with the contraband on a stolen bike when they were arrested.

Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chauhan said Vootkuri Sathwik Reddy, a third-year engineering student at Bongulur, and Gadipally Hemanth, studying a multimedia course, financed the racket. The other accused are Perumalla Rajinikanth, an ITA student in Nalgonda district, Todeti Vamshi, a second-year degree student from Dilsukhnagar.

Police said Rajinikanth and Sameer, a habitual property offender, who met over Instagram, stole a bike from Vanasthalipuram that belongs to police personnel, rode to Malkangiri district of Odisha and purchased five kgs at ₹3,000 per kg. The others financed their trip.
