Chennai: Two arrested for robbing woman of Rs 50,000 gold chain
On Sunday, when she was sleeping at the harbour, some men sprinkled chloroform making her unconscious and fled with Rs 50K and gold chain.
Chennai: The city police have nabbed two men who robbed a woman of Rs 50,000 and a gold chain after making her unconscious by using chloroform here on Monday. The arrested persons were identified as Jeyaseelan and Rajasekar of Singaravelan Nagar in Kasimedu.
According to the police, Venmathi, 37 a fish vendor and a resident of Pagalavan Nagar in Kasimedu usually went to fishing at the Kasimedu fishing harbour and would sometimes stay back in the harbour at night. On Sunday, when she was sleeping at the harbour, some men sprinkled chloroform making her unconscious and fled with Rs 50,000 and gold chain.
Based on her complaint at the Kasimedu fishing harbour station, police have registered a case and launched a hunt to nab the robbers.
Meanwhile, on Monday morning Kasimedu harbour police were on regular rounds and found 2 men in a suspicious manner. “The police questioned them but they made contravening statements. Further drilling revealed that they robbed the cash and jewellery from Venmathi “, the police said.
They were arrested and based on their inputs; the police have recovered 8 sovereigns chain and Rs.40, 000 in cash from their possession. They were sent to judicial remand.
