Hireling held in student attack at Kotturpuram

Chennai: The Government Railway Police arrested on Tuesday a 27-year-old historysheeter for hacking a city college student on Monday in Kotturpuram MRTS platform.
The arrested person was identified as Billa alias Saravanan (27), resident of Tondiarpet, who has at least three attempt to murder cases pending with the City Police.
Saravanan was hired by Rithesh to hack Tyron Michael Murray (23), pursuing M.SW in a private college on Canal Bank Road, Adyar. Preliminary investigations revealed Tyron was earlier friendly with his classmate Preethi. Their relationship is said to have fallen apart following an education project tour which they had undertaken together. Sources said Tyron was suspended on a complaint from Preethi while Tyron had also lodged a counter complaint against her.
Preethi had confided her plight to her friend Ritheesh and the two of them hatched plans to hack Tyron. At her behest, Rithesh hired Billa and another aide to carry out the hit. The gang hacked Tyron while the latter was spending time with his current girlfriend at platform 1 of the Kottrupuram MRTS. He was hacked at around 8.15 am on Monday in full public view.
The girl with him did not suffer any injuries since the hit squad had chased her away from the scene before they took Tyron to task.
The two of them fled the scene in a getaway car, which was waiting outside the station. “Rithesh and Billa’s aide are on the run. We have formed special teams to nab them. Efforts are on to trace the weapon and vehicle used too”, said a senior police official privy to the investigation.
Hospital sources said Tyron who was admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital was shifted to the Government Stanley Hospital for further cosmetology treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
