Hyderabad: Crooks running cyber frauds are not even sparing the health sector.

A resident of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh came across a Facebook page which was supposedly run by ‘Apollo Hospitals’ asking for kidney ‘donors’. Willing to donate, he called the number given and was offered a payment of Rs 2 crore for selling his kidneys by persons who identified themselves as doctors working with Apollo Hospital.

A few days later, after the deal was clinched, the donor received a call from an unidentified person claiming to be the recipient, who said he was carrying the money promised, but had been caught by the authorities at the airport and required Rs 30 lakh to be released.

Incredibly, the donor paid the amount, and only then realised that he had been cheated.

The racket came to light after Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad lodged a complaint with the city police, stating that they were not running any such campaign for kidney donors and their name was being used to trap victims.

Based on their complaint from the victim, a case has been registered with the Cyber crime police station in Hyderabad.

Police say the huge demand for kidneys has spawned this fraud on social media. There are around five such pages on Facebook luring kidney donors by offering them attractive amounts to sell their kidneys, which is illegal. Once a prospective donor ‘likes’ the page or sends a request, the crooks call the donor and negotiate a deal and settle the price.
