Kurnool: The mysterious escape of a life convict in Kurnool from the custody of armed police on Wednesday raises many questions about the safety of under trials and the complicity of men in uniform.

In a filmi style, Khasim who is a life convict in a murder case, and an under trial in a robbery case, gave a slip to three armed policemen and reported 'missing from custody' said Circle Inspector Mallikarjuna Reddy.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle,  he said that three constables, Mallikarjuna, Narasimhulu and Mehaboob Basha have escorted a life imprisonment prisoner Shaik Khasim Basha to Kurnool court on Tuesday who is undergoing the sentence at Kadapa Central Jail.

After attending the court, Khasim,  was alleged to have requested the escort police to take him to his house at Ambedkar Nagar in Vengannabai on the outskirts of Kurnool, the CI said. Acceding to his request, the constables took him to his house and facilitated him to spend time with his parents. Khasim went inside and did not show up, the CI added. Based on the complaint of escort police, a case was registered,  the CI said.

Khasim is an accused in two murder cases that he has committed in 2012. Besides two murder cases, Khasim was also known to have involved in several other cases.

The Kurnool District Superintendent of Police (SP), Gopinath Jetti  suspended three constables belonging to Armed Reserved (AR) police department for their negligence in performing duties.
