Kurnool: A police head constable shot himself dead after shooting to death his first wife and two daughters in Kadapa town late on Wednesday night.

Police have identified him as 55-year-old Telluru Venkateswar of Two Town police station. He belongs to the 1993 batch and currently worked as writer and custodian of weapons at the police station.

Sources said the head constable had been with his superiors at the station until midnight on Wednesday. Sometime after this, he retrieved a service weapon and went to Cooperative Colony, where his first wife Madhavi, aged 46, lived. He shot dead Madhavi and his two daughters – Lakanya, a 20-year-old final-year degree student, and Abhagna, a 16-year-old first-year intermediate student.

Venkateswar shot himself with the same weapon. Family disputes are said to have led Venkateswar into resorting to the extreme act.

His second wife Yarasu Ramadevi resides on the Rajareddy Street in Kadapa town.

The head constable left a suicide note addressed to the district SP in which he did not provide any specific reasons for his act. However, he requested that the SP ensure that all benefits, including GPF, APGLI, GIC, gratuity, surrender pay, family pension, and compassionate appointments are provided to the family of his second wife, Ramadevi.

In June of this year, Venkateswar transferred 1.28 acres of agricultural land in Ulimella village of Pulivendula mandal in the name of Ramadevi.
Town DSP Md. Sherif visited the scene of the incident and oversaw the formalities.

Addressing media, SP Siddharth Kaushal revealed that the deceased head constable had been struggling financially owing to his two wives and children. This might have driven him to the killing spree.

The SP visited the mortuary to view the deceased's body and gathered information from officials at the scene of incident.
