Housewife commits suicide due to harassment in Hyderabad

Sravanti's parents alleged that she committed suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws.

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old housewife who was troubled after her family suspected her of theft, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at Shamirpet on Friday.

R. Sravanti suffered 90 per cent burns and died on Friday. Police said Sravanti, her husband R. Srinivas Reddy and their two kids were staying at a flat in DVNR Apartments in Aliabad.

On Thursday night Sravanti set herself ablaze. Her in-laws who stay on the first floor of the apartment complex rushed her to hospital. In her dying declaration before a magistrate, Sravanti said that nobody was responsible for her death.

Meanwhile, Sravanti's parents alleged that she committed suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws.

“Based on a complaint from her father Yadi Reddy, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against husband Srinivas Reddy, father-in-law Narsimha Reddy, mom-in-law Anjamma and bro-in-law Ram-reddy,” SI K. Chandra Shekar Reddy said.

The body was handed over to her parents after post-mortem.
