Kozhikode: Fake currency ring busted
Police said they were engaged in printing currencies of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 denomination notes.
Kozhikode: In a smart move, police busted a counterfeit currency racket operating at a house in Balussery here on Tuesday afternoon, arresting three and seizing printing materials and equipment.
Police said they were engaged in printing currencies of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 denomination notes.
Those arrested were Rajesh Kumar (45), of Balussery, Wilbert (43) of Vyttila and Vaishakh (24) of Nallalam.
The trio was held from Rajesh's house along with a printer, liquid, ink pot and a bundle paper sheets.
Balussery circle inspector Sudheer Kumar told DC that all of them were facing a series of cases in many police stations and they hatched the plot in Kozhikode district prison.
Wilbert was convicted earlier in a fake currency case in Malappuram district while Vaisakh was booked in several cases including using explosives and ganja. The forest department earlier arrested Rajesh for hunting deer.
The cops are also investigating whether the accused had circulated the printed notes either in the locality or elsewhere. The house owner Rajesh Kumar was a Gulf returnee who allowed the other accomplices to stay with him for the last many days, they said. He managed to mislead his mother, a retired teacher, saying that the other two are his friends in the Gulf on leave.
His wife also works in the Gulf and children studying there. The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Perambra, remanded them to police custody.
