Bengaluru: In an alleged road rage incident, a 33-year-old woman software professional was chased, abused and threatened in broad daylight by a cab driver on Tuesday afternoon.

Akanksha, a resident of HSR Layout, was driving in her car to work in Electronics City when the horrific incident unfolded around noon. She alleged that she called 100, but did not get any help from the police.

Only after her colleagues and friends contacted the control room and alerted them did she get a call from the control room. The control room personnel told her that policemen would be sent to help her, but no one came, she said.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, she said that the cab driver chased her car, drove rashly, blocked her way and tried to open her car door near the Silk Board Junction. “I was driving to office  and it was bumper-to-bumper traffic at the Silk Board Junction when my car brushed against a taxi. There was no damage to the taxi. But the taxi driver jumped out of his car, ran towards my vehicle and started shouting. He started banging on my car with his fist and tried to gather a mob.  I frantically looked for help but there were no policemen. He then blocked my way thrice and chased me for about half-an-hour,” she said.

“He overtook me and blocked my car soon after the Silk Board Flyover. He came out of his vehicle and opened my car door. As I was shocked and scared, I immediately pulled the door back and locked myself inside.

“I kept shouting for help but no one came. Meanwhile, a bus came and stopped at the spot. The bus conductor came out and started talking to the rogue driver when I drove away,” she said.

But the cab driver started chasing her car again. “He followed me for nearly 10 kilometres before I took a blind turn and took another road to safety. By then I had contacted my colleagues, who called the police and alerted them. I got calls from the control room and they asked me whether I was safe.

They said that policemen will be sent to my rescue, but no one came. When I called them again, they told me that they have transferred the complaint to the traffic division,” she said.

When Deccan Chronicle contacted the jurisdictional police, they said that they have registered a case and are hunting for the driver.
