Delivery in toilet: Woman's kin cry foul over probe
They alleged that the probe team acted arbitrarily and the statements recorded from them had not taken into consideration.
MALAPPURAM: The family of the woman who accidentally delivered in a toilet at the Govt Medical College Hospital in Manjeri has questioned the probe report. They alleged that the probe team acted arbitrarily and the statements recorded from them had not taken into consideration to initiate action against the errant staffers. “The nursing staff had not helped us to get the newborn out of the closet as reported. It was my mother who did it. The action against a temporary staffer after the incident is just an eyewash,” said Libi Kumar, the husband of the woman.
He also sought action against the staffer who asked his pregnant wife to go to the toilet instead of admitting her to the labour room. Mr Kumar alleged that the probe team that questioned the family member for hours had not taken their version seriously. “One of the staffers asked us to clean the toilet before leaving when we were all in a traumatic situation,” Mr Kumar said. Meanwhile, the principal of the MCH, Dr K. Mohanan, said the final action based on the probe report was yet to come.
“The investigation report by the two-member panel is under the consideration of the government. The government will decide further actions,” Dr Mohanan said. The delivery of the 24-year old woman in the toilet at the hospital last week had triggered outrage, and political parties protest the apathy of the hospital authorities.
