Muthoot heist: Ticket examiner tells cops of gang

Hyderabad: A lead from the TTE of a train in which the Muthoot robbery suspects travelled has given the police a breakthrough. The suspects travelled in a general compartment and purchased tickets on board.

The gang had stolen Rs 40 crore from a Muthoot Finance outlet in the last week of December. Police found that a two-wheeler bike they used belonged to the relative of one of the suspects.

Teams are still trying to trace the two other suspects of the gang, while three are being questioned.

Police said 10 minutes before reaching the Muthoot branch in Ramachandrapuram, the gang wore uniforms to pass off as CBI and police officials. They changed out of the clothes after the robbery.

They fled to Wadi from where they took a train to Mumbai and purchased tickets on board. Police said days before the robbery, they used the same Scorpio and two-wheeler twice to conduct recces and plan the escape routes.
