Thrissur: The second death anniversary of Jishnu Pranoy, student of Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre at Pampady here, will be observed by the college students on Monday.
Jishnu was found hanging in the bathroom of his hostel room on the evening of January 6, 2017.
While the college authorities claim that he was caught copying in the exam which forced him to commit suicide, his family members and friends allege that the college authorities had foisted a false case on him after seizing his answer paper. They also allege that Jishnu, who had earlier organised protests in the college against the alleged high-handedness of the management, was brutally beaten up inside the ‘torture room’ of the college which led to his death.
College managing trustee P. Krishnadas, former vice-principal of the college N.K. Sakthivel, PRO Sanjith Viswanath and two other male teachers of the college are the accused in case.
The CBI which is presently inquiring into the case had collected the statements of the students of the college twice.
Students Athul Jose, Muhammed Ashiq and Wasim Shaw had recently told mediapersons that the college officials were intentionally failing them in the practical examinations as they were in the forefront of the agitations in the college after the death of Jishnu.
“We failed in two practical examinations and complained to the university. A re-examination was conducted for me and Ashiq recently. When the results of examination came, both of us got nearly double the marks and we passed,” Athul, a pharma-D student, said.
