Visakhapatnam: Crackdown on illegal activities; nine arrested
Visakhapatnam: Police officials across multiple areas took action against nine individuals under the NDPS Act, seizing a substantial amount of ganja. Additionally, 14 cases were registered in this regard.
Under the guidance of city police commissioner Ravi Shankar, directives were issued to conduct raids and file cases pertaining to gambling, alcohol, NDPS violations, cockfighting, and breaches covered by the Nuisance Act.
Two city police stations lodged NDPS Act cases, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of 10 kg of contraband. Similarly, Padmanabham police station’s NDPS Act case led to the arrest of five people and the confiscation of 123 kg of illegal substances.
Gajuwaka police also registered an NDPS Act case, arresting two individuals, and seizing 6 kg of contraband. Moreover, 14 cases were filed against individuals involved in serving alcohol and causing disruptions to public peace. The city also saw 72 cases related to drink-and-drive offenses, alongside 3,651 cases filed against those violating traffic rules and the Motor Vehicles Act.
