Hyderabad: Troubled by the alleged harassment of her husband, a 43-year-old housewife has committed suicide. K. Aparna consumed pesticide at home and came to her brother's house in Malkajgiri. Police registered an abetment-to-suicide case. Aparna, a resident of Malkajgiri, married A. Prakash 15 years ago. Prakash was running a fancy store in Balkampet and Aparna was a housewife. The couple had two daughters. Since a few months, the couple had been quarrelling over petty issues. Often Prakash used to ask his wife to behave like an educated woman as all his relatives were educated. But Aparna could not do so as she was not so educated. On Saturday, after her kids went to school, Prakash had an argument with her over a petty issue and left for work.
Around 1.30 pm, she came to her brother Madhav’s and told them that she had consumed pesticide as her husband was harassing her over minor issues. Her brother Madhav rushed her to a nearby private hospital and when her condition worsened, she was taken to Gandhi Hospital. She died there. Based on a complaint from her brother Madhav, police registered a case of harassment and abetment to suicide against Aparna’s husband Prakash, and handed over the body to her family after post-mortem. Prakash has been detained for questioning. The case is being investigated from all angles, police officials said.
