Burdened by debt, 2 farmers commit suicide in Telangana
The deceased were identified as Chintakayala Chennappa, 38, and Ramannola Nagehwar, 48.
Hyderabad: Unable to bear their financial burden and huge increasing debts, two farmers ended their lives. One in Vikarabad district and the other in Sangareddy district. The deceased were identified as Chintakayala Chennappa, 38, and Ramannola Nagehwar, 48.
Chennappa hailing from Chellapur village in Doultabad mandal in the district owned a two-acre land in his village and had cultivated paddy in it. In the past he had crop failures. But when this season, once again his crop failed, and his financial and debt burden increased further, he lost all hope and hanged himself on a tree in his farm. He is survived by wife and a daughter.
In the other incident, Nageshwar hailing from Pottipalli village in Sadashivpeta mandal in the district, was into cotton farming. In addition to the two acres land he owned, he had also leased another 20 acres of land and cultivated cotton in all of it. However due to the adverse weather conditions, there was negligible produce this season pushing him into further debts and increasing his financial burden.
Depressed, he left home on Sunday evening and did not return.
Worried, his wife Nagendramma and daughter Sirisha started searching for him on Monday morning and found his body in the fields on the outskirts of a neighbouring village.
