Bengaluru: Two LPG blasts leave 14 injured

Four children among the eight injured in first explosion, All victims being treated at Victoria Hospital.

Fourteen people sustained severe injuries in two separate incidents of LPG blast in Bagalgunte and Jagajeevanram Nagar on Thursday.

Bengaluru: Fourteen people sustained severe injuries in two separate incidents of LPG blast in Bagalgunte and Jagajeevanram Nagar on Thursday. In the first incident eight people, including four children, got injured after an LPG cylinder explosion at their residence in Dasarahalli near Peenya early Thursday in Bagalgunte police station limits.

The victims have been identified as Devraj, 38, Lakshamma, 35, Venkatesh, 38, Honnarappa, 70, Somashekar, 15, Sangeetha, 15, Niranjan, 7 and Devika, 4.
The couple Devaraj and Lakshamma were residing in Kalayan Nagar in Dasarahalli and hail from Pavagada. Their relatives had come to visit them along with their children as they were having vacation.

According to the police, on Wednesday, after dinner, Lakshamma forgot to switch off the cylinder regulator. On Thursday at 5 am, Devraj who was on night duty, returned home.

Lakshmamma woke up to open the door for her husband, switched on the lights, which triggered the gas cylinder explosion. The loud noise sparked panic amongst the neighbours, who immediately informed the fire and police control room.  All of them were immediately rushed to the Victoria Hospital where they are currently being treated. The four children are said to be in critical condition. The Bagalgunte police have registered a case.

Explosion in tailoring shop
In the second incident, six people got injured after a cylinder exploded inside a clothing cum tailoring shop in Jagajeevanram Nagar on Thursday evening.
According to the police, the incident happened around 4 pm, when shop owner Sohail and his five workers were present at the shop.

The passerby immediately informed the fire and police control room, who immediately rushed to the spot and shifted them to the Victoria Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. One of the workers, Ifi Yar is said to be in critical condition. JJ Nagar police have registered a case and begun investigation.
