Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Thursday counselled 20 persons who had been caught teasing or harassing women during the month of March 2018.
Throughout the month, the SHE Teams of Cyberabad received 149 complaints of harassment from women. 52 cases were booked, of which 43 were criminal cases and 9 were petty cases. 21 of the 52 cases filed were on charges of eve-teasing, 22 were on charges of cell phone stalking, and nine were for the creation of public nuisance.
25 awareness programmes were conducted, and 10,625 persons took part in them. The SHE Teams also conducted 54 decoy operations at hotspots such as bus stops, malls, railway stations, and tutorial centres.
In one case, a woman from Dundigal who had rejected a proposal from her cousin seven years earlier was being blackmailed by him. He had filmed her while she was having a bath and was demanding money and sexual favours from her. He threatened her, demanded nude photographs of her, and extorted Rs 8 lakh from her. He even attempted to throw acid on her. When he arrived at her house along with his family to force her to marry him, the woman approached the SHE Teams.
All the persons accused of harassing women were counselled in the presence of their family members.
