Hyderabad: Man held for abusing minor

Hemanth reportedly exploited her on multiple occasions and she became pregnant.

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a minor girl for over a year because of which she became pregnant seven months ago was arrested by Chaitanyapuri police on Friday.

Police identified the accused as Hemanth Yadav, 19, a driver from Chaitanyapuri, He had lured the 16-year-old living in his neighbourhood about two years ago by professing love to her. He promised to marry her and began sexually exploiting her. This went on for over a year, said Chaitanyapuri inspector S. Sudershan.

Hemanth reportedly exploited her on multiple occasions and she became pregnant. The girl is currently in the seventh month of her pregnancy. She is pursuing her Intermediate first year in a private college, he said.

Upon learning about her pregnancy, her parents lodged a complaint with the police. Hemanth was arrested and booked under IPC Sections 376 (2) (i) (N) (punishment for rape) and 417 (punishment for cheating) and Section 5 (j) 2(l) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Hemanth has been remanded to judicial custody, said inspector Sudershan.
