MADURAI: Rural police arrested three persons and seized 10 lakh booth slips printed with the AIADMK symbol near Nagamalai Pudukottai in Madurai on Wednesday night.

A flying squad team, which was involved in vehicle check, intercepted a van near Keelakuilkudi junction. When officials examined the materials inside the vehicle, they were shocked to find the booth slips printed with AIADMK symbols, violating election rules.

According to Election Commission rules, only election officials of the concerned district are assigned the task of distributing plain booth slips to voters for the upcoming assembly election on May 16. Political parties should not involve in these activities, said a senior election officer.

“The vehicle with Chennai registration was scheduled to deliver these booth slips to four constituencies in Theni district,” added the officer. Nagamalai Pudukottai police arrested Marimuthu, Manikandan and Prabhu in connection with the case and are conducting further probe.
