Bengaluru: The police have arrested three associates of former corporator and rowdy Nagaraj, including a bouncer, who were allegedly extorting money on the pretext of converting demonetised currency notes.

Nagaraj is on the run after the police seized nearly Rs 14 crore in scrapped currency notes from his residence.

The accused have been identified as Saravana (39), Srinivas (45) and Jai Krishnan (35). The police said that Saravana had taken Manjunath G.S. to Nagaraj for money exchange. A dispute broke out between Nagaraj and Saravanan over the distribution of the booty. Later, Saravana was trying to convince Manjunath to file a case against Naga.

“The draft case prepared by Manjunath along with Saravana has a list of people who have lost money to Nagaraj. The draft complaint, which we seized from Saravana, states that Naga had collected new notes of Rs 25,60,000 from Manjunath and eight others, promising them 15 percent commission. The money belongs to nine people from Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural and Mandya districts. Their identities are being ascertained,” the police said

The bouncer, Krishnan, confessed that he and three other toughies were employed by Naga to threaten and beat up Naga’s victims. “Naga used to threaten them with a gun, while his sons, Gandhi and Shastri, beat them up with baseball bats,” the police said.
