Hyderabad: Cyberabad police arrested two persons on Friday who impersonated as cops and extorted money from a delivery boy in Chandanagar. The suspects are L Srinivas Rao, 27, and R. Sridhar, 25.

Police said, 23-year-old P. Phani Kumar was working as a delivery boy for Swiggy. On Wednesday, he went to deliver an order in BHEL and was returning. On the way, three unidentified persons intercepted his bike. They identified themselves as Miyapur police and asked him to produce his driving license. Later they forcibly snatched Rs 4,000 from his wallet and fled from the spot on a bike.

Based on his complaint police registered a case and with the help of the bike number traced the suspects. Getting a tip-off, police arrested the duo. One suspect is absconding.

“Srinivas Rao acted as constable, Sridhar as Sub Inspector and Vamshi Krishna Reddy who is absconding acted as inspector. We arrested them, seized their bike and Rs 500,” Chandanagar inspector N. Tirupathi Rao said.

The arrested persons were remanded.
