Hyderabad: Shameerpet police arrested a sand truck driver P Govind, who was allegedly responsible for a major accident on Rajiv Rahadari Highway on Friday that led to the death of four people. The accident occurred after one of the tyres of the truck fell flat and the vehicle came to a sudden halt on the main road.
The driver Govind told police that after the vehicle came to a sudden halt, he got down from it and found one of the tyres as flat.
"I thought I will relieve myself and then set up some indications at the truck for others to identify. Immediately, I heard a loud noise. I ran to the road and found a car has crashed into my truck," Govind reportedly told the police before he was arrested.
After noticing the crash, he fled from the spot. Based on the vehicle registration, police traced him and produced him before the court on Saturday.
On Friday early morning, while Govind was driving the truck, loaded with sand, it broke down on the highway at Lalgadi Malakpet village, under the limits of Shameerpet police station. Minutes later, a car coming in the same direction crashed into the rear portion of the stationed truck, resulting in the death of four passengers, including the car driver, a mother and her two children. They were heading to RGI Airport to receive the woman's husband who was returning back home from Qatar.
