Hyderabad: A woman who was sent for a medical check-up at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) by the police following a complaint was raped allegedly by the ward boy working at the casualty ward of the hospital. The accused, Berla Nagaraju, 45, along with a police home guard, who abetted the crime, were arrested by the police on Saturday.

The big break in the case was an earring worn by the accused Nagaraju, which helped the victim identify him during investigation.

The 35-year-old is a resident of Banjara Hills and had approached the police on Wednesday night to make a complaint against her husband who beat her. As it was a medico-legal case, the police after taking her complaint sent her to the OGH for treatment. She was sent alone to the hospital without any relative or female constable to escort her.

“After availing the treatment, the woman was sitting in the waiting hall and chatting with a stranger when Nagaraju, the ward boy approached her and said she was creating a nuisance.

Nagaraju then took her to a secluded and dark place on the first floor where the OP is located and raped her.

Later he told about it to the home guard Qamar-e-IIlahi, 25, who was posted at the OGH police outpost. Qamar allegedly assured Nagaraju that he will not escalate the information but will hush up the issue,” said ACP Sultan Bazaar, Dr Chetana Mylabathula.
