Belagavi MLA Sambhaji Patil accused of dowry harassment
Complaint filed by Sambhaji Patil's daughter-in-law.
BELAGAVI: A case of dowry harassment has been filed by Belagavi police against MLA Sambhaji Patil and his family members following a complaint lodged by his daughter-in-law on Sunday.
Patil has been accused of demanding a dowry of Rs 50 lakh from his daughter-in-law Sita Patil. The other accused include Sita’s husband Sagar Patil, mother-in-law Ujwala Patil, Sandhya Nitin Parnukar, Nitin Parnukar, Nandu Bandedkar, Appasaheb Pujari, Madhu Pujari, Sanjay Sateri and Sanjay Shinde.
Some of the above accused are well known personalities of Belagavi and have been in politics for a long time. Patil himself has been a five-time mayor of Belagavi.
According to the complaint, all the accused were harassing Sita mentally and physically ever since she married Sagar on May 30, 2011. Sita stated that for the sake of dowry she was being harassed on a regular basis by all the accused.
Besides levelling serious allegations against all the accused, the complainant stated that her husband married another woman illegally on April 14, this year with the support of all the accused.
When Sita opposed Sagar's second wedding and tried to stop it, she was threatened by the accused. According to the police, none of the accused have been arrested yet.
