Bengaluru: Rowdy attacks police constable; shot at, arrested

Bengaluru: A rowdysheeter was shot at and later arrested by the Vijayanagar police after he attacked a police constable, when a police team had gone to arrest him and his friends in connection with two robbery cases.

The police arrested five rowdies, Tarun alias Shravan, Nandeesh, Sumanth, B.M. Pradeep and Akshay.

On May 21, Shravan and his gang had robbed one Praveen of cash and other valuables, while the former going in a bike. He was intercepted by Shravan and his gang in a car on Pattegarapallya Main Road.

The gang assaulted Praveen with lethal weapons and fled with cash and valuables.

Praveen then approached the Vijayanagar police and lodged a complaint. The police swung into action and arrested B.M. Pradeep and Akshay on May 24 and during the interrogation, they confessed to robbing Praveen along with Shravan and two others.

While Pradeep and Akshay were in jail, Shravan and his gang robbed another person of Rs 3 lakh on June 2 in Kamakshipalya police station limits.

According to police, on Monday, at around 12 midnight the police received a tip-off that Shravan and his gang was travelling in an auto near Sumanahalli junction. The police found the auto and as they approached the auto, the driver accelerated following which the police too chased the vehicle.

In a bid to escape, the auto driver drove the vehicle towards the back side of Pete Channappa Industrial Estate and hit a dead end. The gang then stepped out of the auto and started running.

Constable Srinivas murthy chased Shravan and caught hold of him. To escape arrest, Shravan pulled out a knife and attacked the constable, compelling the inspector Nageshwar to open fire at him, the police said.

Shravan sustained a bullet on his leg following which he was rushed to Victoria Hospital for treatment while constable Srinivasmurthy, who sustained knife injuries was admitted at Gayathri Hospital.

Shravan is a rowdysheeter at the Kamakshipalya police station and is involved in several cases of dacoity, attempt to murder, theft and robbery in Kamakshipalya and Vijayanagar police stations.
