The woman passenger had booked an Ola Cab to go to Kempegowda International Airport from East Bengaluru.

Bengaluru: An Ola cab driver was arrested for drunk driving and attempting to abduct a woman passenger in Chikkajala police station limits early Thursday. Police said the incident took place at around 2 am.

The woman passenger had booked an Ola Cab to go to  Kempegowda International Airport from East Bengaluru. She was a private firm employee and was scheduled to go to Mumbai.

As the cab reached near the toll gate close to the airport, the driver allegedly changed the lane and started heading on the Hyderabad route.

The alert woman passenger told the driver, who was in an inebriated state, to take the cab towards the airport. The driver allegedly misbehaved with her and continued in the Hyderabad route.

When the cab reached the second toll gate, the woman raised an alarm and managed to draw the attention of the toll plaza employees. The toll plaza staff stopped the cab and rescued the woman.

“The woman then informed the police and a team immediately rushed to the spot and arrested the driver. He has been booked for kidnapping and drunk driving,” said Kala Krishnaswamy, DCP (North East). Police issued notice to Ola, a private cab aggregator.

Barely a week ago, Deputy Chief Minister G. Paramaeshwar had a meeting with the officials of private cab aggregators Uber and Ola, along with police officials, regarding the safety of women passengers in cabs.
