Video: Denied bribe of Rs 100, UP cops beat two labourers to death
Local residents found their body floating in a nearby pond later at 10:30 am.
Agra: Four cops and two home guards were suspended on Friday for allegedly beating to death two young men, after they refused to pay a bribe of Rs 100.
According to reports, Pankaj Yadav and Dileep Yadav, both in their early twenties, were travelling in a truck carrying bricks, when they were stopped at a crossing in Kosma, Mainpuri, early on Friday morning.
The police sought a bribe of Rs 100 for the passage of the truck, but an altercation ensued when the driver of the vehicle, Vinesh, refused to pay up. Things soon went out of hand, and the group, which included the driver and two more labourers, attempted to flee the spot. Dileep and Pankaj were caught by the cops and thrashed.
Local residents found their body floating in a nearby pond later at 10:30 am.
While the police claimed that the duo died due to drowning, villagers and family of the two youth took to the road, blocking the highway, alleging that they were thrashed to death and dumped there.
Autopsy reports also confirmed that the two men died of the impact of an assault they suffered, and not of drowning.
The mob also manhandled two cops who were sent to manage the situation.
The family members filed a complaint against six officers for thrashing the two youths. The six officers were suspended and a case of murder has been registered against them.
"A case has also been registered against the owners of a brick kiln in Mainpuri, Sunil Verma Lalu and Pramod Dubey,” said Mainpuri superintendent of police (SP) Dev Ranjan Verma.
