Visakhapatnam: Security personnel at the Visakhapatnam International Airport seized 13 live 0.32 bore bullets from a woman passenger who was about to board a flight to Hyderabad on Tuesday at 4.40 pm. She was identified as Sujatha, 61, a resident of RK Beach area in Visakhapatnam.

The bullets were detected during routing scanning of the baggage. Police said Sujatha does not have an arms licence of documents to carry ammunition. Consequently, a case was registered at the Airport police station under the Arms Act.

Vizag West Zone ACP Sripada Rao said that Sujatha during questioning claimed that she was not aware of the presence of the bullets in the bag. Around 25 years back, her father-in-law had a weapon and, after his death, his wife had shifted to her place.

Sujatha is saying that she must have packed the luggage in a bag, in which the bullets might have been placed previously.

“She said she was carrying most of the items belonging to her father-in-law to Hyderabad, which included the bag which contained these bullets,” Sripada Rao told Deccan Chronicle. She was being further questioned by the Airport police, he added.
