HYDERABAD: Road rage and provocative exchanges between people commuting on roads are leading to increased cases of brawls, assaults and even culpable homicides in the city, police officials have revealed.
In the latest case, three men have been arrested by Jubilee Hills police for attacking a biker and damaging his vehicle following an argument over honking at a signal.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when Mohd Mustaq, a fish vendor from Netaji Nagar, and his friend Inayath Ali were returning home from Charminar. As they reached GTN Colony signal, they found three persons, Vinay, Vinod and Bunny, triple riding in a haphazard manner. When Mustaq asked them to drive properly, an argument broke out between them. Following this, the trio overtook the bike of Mustaq and assaulted him and Inayath, apart from damaging their bike,” said Jubilee Hills inspector S. Rajashekar Reddy.

Investigations revealed that Vinay is an office boy, Vinod a salesperson and Bunny is an online food delivery executive. They have been booked under sections 341, 323 read with 34 and 27 of IPC and arrested. “We made the arrest after receiving a complaint from Mustaq,” police said.

In a more severe case reported earlier, a youngster, identified as Sudheer Kumar, who was drunk, had been riding on the wrong side. He crashed into one of the bikes of four riders at Jubilee Hills. When the four questioned Suddher, the latter passed some insulting comment. This enraged the four men who started punching Sudheer. Sudheer fainted and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. This led to a culpable homicide case against the four.

Speaking about impulsive anger during road rage cases, Dr B. Soniya, a psychologist, said everyone has anger within. But the impulse control centre keeps most people calm. “However, when there is an emotional overload, people get violent without thinking. Such people may even regret their actions, but sometimes that would be too late.

Some common examples of impulsive behaviours are going on spending sprees, driving recklessly, promiscuous sex, binge eating, yelling, shouting or screaming at others, threatening to harm others, destroying property, shoplifting and getting into physical fights with people,” D. Soniya said. When a person is afflicted by such an Impulse Control Disorder (ICD), it is better for them to seek professional help, she added.
