West Bengal TMC Leader Satyen Chowdhury Shot Dead By Bike Borne Assailants
Berhampore: A Trinamul Congress leader was shot dead by a gang of miscreants in Murshidabad of West Bengal. The victim, Satyen Chowdhury (62), was the ruling party's district general secretary.
He was earlier a close aide of Berhampore Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury and recently started hobnobbing with the BJP. On Sunday afternoon the TMC leader was speaking on his mobile phone outside his under construction flat.
Three armed men wearing helmets, waiting on a motorcycle nearby, fired three rounds on his head, neck and chest and fled. Locals rescued and admitted the TMC leader at the Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Additional SP (Murshidabad) Wasim Khan said, “A TMC leader was killed. An inquiry has been started.” Murshidabad TMC MP Abu Taher Khan said that Chowdhury was inactive in the party for some time due to difference of opinion. He demanded arrest of the culprits.
BJP Murshidabad district president Sakharov Sarkar said, "Due to his difference of opinion with TMC leadership Chowdhury was in touch with us. He mediated between our party and disgruntled TMC MLAs." Berhampore BJP MLA Subrata Moitra said, "Chowdhury was in Banaras. He returned seven days ago. It seems his killers knew his movements.”
