Hyderabad: Old age home owners assault 17-year-old girl
Case registered against owner Naomi, 16-year-old son.
Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl who was staying and working at an old age home was abused by the owners of the home. She escaped from the home and approached the police. Police registered a case against the person in charge of the home and her 16-year-old son.
Meanwhile, the Balala Hakkula Sangham blamed the negligence of the Women and Child Welfare department for such unauthorised homes and demanded that they should be merged with government homes.
The 17-year-old girl, who lost her parents, was admitted to an orphanage in Uppal. From there, around two years ago, the owner of Ruby Old Age Home, Ms Naomi, picked her up and took her to work in the old age home. The girl said that Naomi, her son and her aged mother used to assault her every day. She said she had asked them to let her go so that she can go back to the orphanage, but she threatened and assaulted her. “I was happy at the orphanage. The madam there took good care of us, but I am suffering here. Two more girls are also here. When police raided the house last month they hid us in the bushes,” the victim said.
She said that Naomi had confined her to a room for three months and disconnected electricity also. “On Sunday night also they beat me and when I shouted that I will go out, her son caught me by my hair and dragged me through the steps,” the victim added.
She escaped from the home on Sunday and with the help of a Good Samaritan lodged a complaint with Uppal police. “We have registered a case under Section 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act,” Uppal inspector Y. Narsimha Reddy said.
