Chennai: Childless couple, running hotel, end lives at home
Business loss or debts could also be reasons: Police.
CHENNAI: In an unfortunate incident near Tiruporur, a man and his wife committed suicide on Thursday night. The victims have been identified as Sasikumar (35) and his wife Vijaya (27) of Bajanai Koil Street in Navalur near Tiruporur. Natives of Ramanathapuram and Pudukkottai, the two had married 2 years ago and were running a hotel on Thalambur Main Road in Navalur. According to police, Sasikumar’s brother Meiporul (37), who is a partner in the hotel and residing nearby, had visited Sasikumar on Thursday night.
“Due to bandh, they closed the hotel on Thursday and Meiporul had come to bring his brother to buy provisions for next day. Meiporul had sounded his two-wheeler horn to call his brother, but there was no response, the police said.
“He also knocked the door in futile. Then he informed the landlord Gnana Pushpam. The duo tried to ‘wake’ up the couple, as they thought they were sleeping,” the sources added.
Meanwhile, some of their neighbours joined them and lit torchlight through the window only to find Sasikumar and Vijaya hanging from the ceiling fan. The two reportedly hanged themselves by one saree. The neighbours alerted Thalambur police and the police sent the bodies to Chengalpattu government medical college hospital for autopsy. The police are are investigating.
