Chennai: Man held for murder of mother-in-law
Sources close to the victim’s family said due to frequent quarrels, the woman would leave for her mother’s house often.
Chennai: The Vandalur Otteri police on Monday arrested a man who murdered his mother-in-law over a family tiff, police said.
The accused, identified as Sathish Kumar (39), of Aadhanoor near Guduvanchery in Kancheepuram district, was married to Sushmitha (28) of Mannivakkam four years ago. Sathish Kumar, an alcoholic, frequently picked up fight with Susmitha and allegedly harassed her.
Sources close to the victim’s family said due to frequent quarrels, the woman would leave for her mother’s house often. The husband would go pacify and bring her back. But another fight would soon ensue and the woman would return to Mannivakkam again
On Sunday, the man boozed and reportedly harassed her wife when she left for her mother’s house. However, Sathish Kumar went to his mother -in law’s house in the wee hours of Sunday to bring her wife back, when Jaya Chitra(48), Sushmitha’s mother, refused to send her daughter back with him.
Irked by it, he grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed her neck and fled the spot. Hearing Sushmitha’s cries neighbours cameto her rescue and rushed her to a private hospital nearby where she was declared dead on arrival.
The Vandalur Otteri police were informed and a murder case was registered against Sathish.
The body of the woman was shifted to the Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the police on Monday evening nabbed Sathish Kumar from Chengalpattu bus terminus and remanded him to judicial custody.
