Hyderabad: A 70-year-old woman's body was abandoned by her two daughters because her mother refused them property before she died of illness at a government hospital in Kamareddy. Police intervened, directing the two daughters to take away their mother's body and perform her funeral rites.

Kistavva, 70, lived in BR Nagar in Kamareddy with her two daughters Pentavva and Yellavva. Kistavva became ill as a result of her old age, and was admitted at a government hospital on April 21. She died last night.

A doctor at the government hospital called the two daughters to inform them of their mother's death. However, both girls declined to come to the hospital to take the body following which it was shifted to the hospital's mortuary. According to the police, the two daughters demanded that Kistavva register a house in their names as well as the Rs 1.50 lakh cash that was in the mother's savings account. After receiving information from the hospital authorities, Kamareddy Town assistant sub-inspector Laxman visited the hospital. "I asked the two women to come to the hospital and take the body to perform their mother's final rites. We sent police personnel to the house where the two women are living, but the door is locked,” he said.  If they do not come to the hospital to take the body, the police will perform funeral rites with the help of locals, the ASI stated.
