Sikkimese rape case: Four held

Visakhapatnam: The Gajuwaka Police on Thursday arrested four persons, including a B.Com student and a 15-year-old boy, in connection with the alleged rape of a 35-year-old Sikkimese woman. The woman was gang raped on the evening of July 3. The police said that the four accused gained entry into the house by posing as policemen in plain clothes who had come to conduct a raid.

The accused have been identified as Chintala Purushottam (22), a history-sheeter and a resident of Driver’s Colony, Y. Venkata Ramana (22), a third-year B.Com student from a private college and a resident of Pedagantyada, and Harsha Raju (19), a resident of Nathavaram in Narsipatnam. ACP (South Zone) J. Rammohan Rao said that a special team had been formed to nab the accused and take the juvenile into custody.

The police said that on June 3, the four had arrived at the house at around at 7.30 pm, posing as cops. They claimed that they were inspecting houses in the Bhanojithota area because they had received concrete information about a sex racket. The four then checked the entire house, pocketed Rs 650 in the process, and demanded a bribe.

The victim was in the house with her three children at the time. Two of the accused, including the minor, took the children to another room in the house, while the other two took the woman to the kitchen and raped her. The four fled the spot after committing the crime.
