Hyderabad: A customer attacked a hotel staffer in a row over a ‘samosa’ at the hotel in Balapur at about 9.30 pm on Wednesday,  Kanchanbagh police said.

The customer Mohammed Feroz along with his friends had gone to have tea and Feroz asked for a samosa from Mohammed Obaid who was at the counter. Samosa has a second meaning as a code word for a girl. This led to an argument and Feroz and his friends attacked Obaid, Kanchanbagh inspector V. Anand Kishore said.

Later that night, Feroz allegedly went to the hotel to apologise and claimed that hotel employees Mazhar, Azhar and others had beaten him.

In a separate case, a customer attacked a woman kiosk owner with a sickle as she was unable to serve him a dosa at Ramayampet in Medak district. A video of the attack was widely shared on social media on Thursday.  Police said that they did not receive any complaint in connection with the incident but are inquiring into the issue.

It was reported that one M. Swamy went to a vendor who was serving eatables. When he tried to place an order for a dosa, the owner replied that they served only idli. Angered by this, Swamy took out a sickle and started abusing the woman owner. When other customers tried to help her, Swamy stabbed her and fled. The episode was recorded by a bystander on a mobile phone and posted to a social media portal.
