In a Horrific Incident, a Drunk Youth Strips 28-Year-Old Woman in Public

HYDERABAD: In a heinous act, an intoxicated man assaulted and stripped a 28-year-old woman in public on the Balajinagar main road, under Jawaharnagar police station, around 8.45 pm on Sunday.

In an even more inhuman reaction, passersby did nothing to stop the maniac and shamelessly took videos of the criminal act, rued Jawaharnagar SI Mohammed Idris.

The victim was intercepted by the accused Pedda Mariah, after she had purchased groceries from a shop in Balajinagar. Mariah, a labourer, was returning home from a nearby wine shop. His mother Seetamma, who too was passing by, tried to stop him when he put his hand on the victim, police said. When the victim abused Mariah and pushed him to the ground, he began attacking her and stripped her, police said.

When a woman tried to intervene and stop him, Mariah also tried to attack her, the SI said.

Some locals covered the traumatized victim, who was naked, with a bed sheet and informed Jawaharnagar police.

On reaching the spot, a woman constable took the victim to a government hospital for medical examination. The victim, employed in a private company, is from Karnataka.

“We have arrested Mariah against whom we registered cases for outraging modesty, assaulting, using criminal force with the intent to disrobe and criminal intimidation under 354, 354 (B), 323 and 506 of IPC and produced him before the court, " said Idris.
