Hyderabad: A man who tried to take revenge on a girl who rejected his marriage proposal and uploaded her pictures on social media portraying her as a prostitute by using a fake profile has been arrested on Thursday.
The victim, a resident of LB Nagar, lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police stating that an unidentified man has created a fake Facebook profile and used her photos. The stranger had also sent friend requests and abusive messages to her friends. The stranger also posted information on social media portraying her as a prostitute.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 354 (D) and 509 of IPC, and Section 66 (D) and 67 of IT Act. A notice was sent to Facebook to share the details of the person using the fake profile, and following a response and other technical evidence, he was arrested.
According to Rachakonda cyber crime inspector D. Jalandhar Reddy, the victim was in a state of shock when she found out about the activities of the stranger. She even stopped going to office and confined herself to her home as she was unable to identify who was trying to defame her.
The inspector said, “With the technical clues available, the accused was identified as Mohan Krishna Varma, 23, a resident of Kompally. The accused and victim were working in different companies when they got into contact because of their jobs. Varma proposed her but she refused. He wanted to take revenge ever since by damaging her character.”
“The accused confessed to having committed the offence during questioning. His mobile phone was seized and he has been produced in court for judicial remand,” said inspector Reddy.
