Hyderabad: Woman set on fire by married man
Ibrahim befriended Shabana a year back and proposed to marry her.
Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman was set on fire by a married man on Saturday morning after they met and grew close on Facebook.
Ibrahim went to the girl’s place at about 8.30 am and poured petrol over her to kill her. He then doused himself too in a bid to commit suicide, police said.
Hearing the commotion in the house, Anjeena Begum, a neighbour, intervened and suffered 10 per cent burns in a bid to save them, said Tappachabutra police inspector Chandrasekhar, adding that all three were rushed to hospital to undergo treatment and the condition of the ‘couple’ is said to be critical. Both sustained 50-60 per cent burns.
Ibrahim, a resident of Barkas, is married and has two kids too. He befriended Shabana Begum a year back, after which he proposed to marry her, said her sister-in-law.
“He came and met our family and we had initially agreed. It was only after we found out that he was already married and is a father of two that we asked him to leave Shabana alone. He then started harassing her and threatening us. We have also approached the police, who counselled him and his family and warned him not to approach us again,” she said.
On Saturday morning, around 8.30 am, he came on a bike carrying a bottle of petrol, asked Shabana to come out and poured fuel on her.
Based on a complaint, the Tappachabutra police booked a case under relevant Sections and started an investigation.
