Thrissur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday recorded the statement of the victim in the alleged Wadakkanchery gangrape case afresh.

Sources close to the police said that the chief investigation officer ASP G. Poonguzhali along with Alathur circle inspector K.A. Elizhabeth and a civil police officer started recording the statement at an undisclosed location in Kochi.

The alleged gangrape victim is learnt to have stood by her statement in the press meeting held in Thiruvanathapuram on November 3 along with dubbing artiste Bhagyalakshmi.

She had alleged that the CPM councillor from Wadakkanchery municipality P.N. Jayanthan along with his brother and two of her husband’s friends had gangraped her in April 2014.

The SIT members had sought the permission of the complainant to record her statement on Saturday evening.

Based on the detail statement that was collected on Sunday, the four men facing allegations of gangrape will be soon questioned by the team members.
None of the officers in the SIT were willing to speak to the media about the new statement.
