Ten held for assault on minor in Karnataka
The minor boy filed a complaint on November 2 based on which the Subrahmanya police filed a case
Mangaluru: Ten people have been arrested for assaulting a minor boy at Guttigar in Dakshina Kannada district. The 16-year-old boy has complained to the Subrahmanya Police alleging that he was accused an arecanut thief and assaulted by the group.
According to the complaint, the boy was taking about 25 kgs of arecanut to the nearby market on October 27 evening from the plantation that was taken on lease by his family.
He was stopped by a group of about 10 people at Kadtalkaje of Guttigar village and accused him of arecanut theft. Though the boy repeatedly told them that the arecanut was grown in their plantation, the group continued to assault him with hand and stick. The assault was recorded and the video went viral on social media.
The boy filed a complaint on November 2 based on which the Subrahmanya police filed a case against Jeevan, Varshit, Sachin, Mokshit, Sanath, Murali, Dinesh, Eshwar, Chandra, and Chethan.
The ten appeared before the jurisdictional magistrate on Saturday. They were granted bail.
