Guntur: Nursing students allege ragging
They lamented that Dora Babu harassed the female nursing students seeking sexual favours.
GUNTUR: The nursing students of the Government Nursing College at GGH Guntur lodged a complaint with the Kothapeta police in Guntur on Wednesday night, about being ragged and sexually harassed in college. As many as 25 second year female students of the Government Nursing College led by SFI leaders lodged a complaint about ragging by a second year girl student and sexual harassment by a second year male student.
The female nursing students alleged that the college principal had appointed two class leaders Dora Babu and Rajeswari to help the students. They lamented that Dora Babu harassed the female nursing students seeking sexual favours. They said that the other class leader Rajeswari also ragged the female nursing students in the guise of supervision.
The students alleged that Dora Babu had several times touched the female students during class in the absence of teachers. They further alleged that they had brought the issue to the notice of the principal, GGH superintendent and other officials but in vain. The students also alleged that Dora Babu had spiked the soft drink of a female student when she was doing night duty and sought sexual favours from her when she became drowsy because of the soft drink.
Officials failed to respond:
The nursing students of the Government Nursing College at GGH Guntur lodged a complaint with the Kothapeta police in Guntur on Wednesday night, about being ragged and sexually harassed in college. SFI leader V. Bhagvan Das said that as the officials failed to respond, the students had lodged a complaint with the police. Further the students lodged a complaint with AP Women Commission chairperson Ms N. Raja Kumari who immediately rushed to GGH and inquired about the harassment and ragging. She directed the GGH and police officials to take stern actions against the two students who were ragging and harassing the female nursing students.
Dora Babu refuted the allegations and claimed that he did not harass the girl students. But the students claimed that they also had the video recordings of Dora Babus harassments and would hand them over to the police. Kothapeta CI Vamsidhar said that a complaint was registered and investigation had been started.
