Kurnool: Unknown assailants killed Pujari Ramu, 59, brother of YSRCP MLC Pothula Sunitha, at the Pendekallu railway junction in Kurnool district late on Saturday night.

Pujari Ramu had once been an active member of the People's War Group, serving as a dalam commander in Nallamala forests from 1985 to 1991 before surrendering to police.

While studying, he had been the district president of Radical Students’ Union.

Of late, Pujari Ramu had been living a homeless life, spending life at the railway station and at various places in the village. On Saturday night, he had been assaulted with stones. Police found his dead body with severe head injuries at the railway junction around 11 p.m.

Like his brother Lenin Babu and his now-MLC sister Suneetha, Ramu has family roots in Tuggali of Pathikonda constituency in Kurnool district.

Local police have registered a case following a complaint by his brother Lenin Babu.

Tuggali sub-inspector Mallikarjuna said the murder does not seem to be politically motivated. They are considering the possibility of roadside beggars or other mentally-disabled being involved in the heinous act.
