Update: 2017-03-08 01:35 GMT
The menace of sexual harassment at workplaces has been increasing in urban and rural areas in the state.

Viajayawada: The Vijayawada city continues to be unsafe for the women. The crimes against women were found to be on the rise according to the police data in the year 2016. One more disturbing data that came out was that the number of untraced women who were reported as missing was also on the rise in Vijayawada. Though the total number of missing cases has come down slightly in 2016, number of women who were not traced yet has more than doubled.

Out of the total 480 cases reported missing cases during 2016, only 292 cases were traced, according to the data from the Vijayawada police commissionerate. As many as 188 women were still not traced yet. The total number of cases during 2015 stood on the higher side at 529, the police were able to trace 466 of them leaving behind 63 women. This figure stands even better at 403 traced against 455 missing in 2014.

The last three years data has shown that the numbers of missing women or girl cases were on the rise and what worries more was that the number of women traced is on the downside. The police have also noted that the number of girls who were involved in love affairs and eloped from home in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 was found to be 200, 188 and 198 respectively. City police commissioner D. Goutam Sawang has expressed concern over the crime against women continuing to be on the rise during the inauguration of Mahila Rakshk teams in the city. Mr Gautam Sawang said the city police are trying to make Vijayawada as the safest city for women in the days to come.
