Auto driver, wife held for killing old woman in Hyderabad
Couple strangled Nagamani, stole her ornaments.
Hyderabad: Three months after a 60-year-old woman was found dead in her house at Meerpet, police has established that a couple committed the murder. The couple killed Nagamani to rob her gold ornaments.
The accused, an autorickshaw driver and his wife, who lived in the neighbourhood, had asked for a loan but the victim did not oblige. They planned the robbery and went to her house when she was alone, and strangled her to death. Later, they fled with her gold ornaments.
Police said auto driver Bala Subramanyam used to drop Nagamani’s granddaughter to school. He noticed that Nagamani was alone at her home between 10 am and 5 pm since her son and daughter-in-law went out for work. Subramanyam’s wife Yadamma, 30, was arrested while the man, a native of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, is absconding.
The murder took place on March 18 at around 10.30 am in Badangpet. “The accused had asked Nagamani to give them a loan of Rs 2,000 and she had refused. Later, the couple entered her house forcibly and strangled her. They took away her gold ornaments weighing 35 gram and a silver anklet of 50 gram,” said Tafseer Iqubal, the DCP of LB Nagar. Police has launched a manhunt for Subramanyam.
